World Architecture Day 2024: Empowering Young Architects to Lead Urban Transformation

This year’s theme for World Architecture Day is, “Mobilising Young Talent for Urban Transformation”. It aptly recognises the powerful truth that our cities’ future is in the hands of young architects.

As urbanisation accelerates, the need for sustainable solutions becomes more urgent. Accordingly, these emerging designers are stepping up to shape environments that are smarter, greener, and more inclusive.

Nurturing young talent

Through partnerships with academic institutions like the Singapore University of Technology & Design (SUTD), we’re providing opportunities for students to engage with real-world issues. For example, our Associate Director, Khoo Teik Tong, leads the design studio, ‘In-Between Katong’ at SUTD. There, he encourages students to explore sustainable urban design solutions, thereby pushing them to rethink how cities can evolve.

As an adjunct lecturer at SUTD, Teik Rong is involved in student critiques and he is often joined by our Senior Managing Director, Seah Chee Kien. Together, they share their expertise and thoughtful feedback to help students improve and grow as architects.

Embracing new technology

Additionally, our AI-driven innovations, such as Space+ and digital transformation projects empower young architects to integrate cutting-edge technology into the design process.

From optimising building performance to enhancing user experiences, AI plays a pivotal role in our approach to urban transformation. By merging creativity with technology, young architects can explore new ways of solving complex urban challenges.

At RSP, we’re proud to work alongside young architects who aren’t just responding to urban transformation challenges but are also defining its future. By fostering their creativity and providing them with real-world opportunities, we ensure that our cities evolve innovatively and sustainably.

On World Architecture Day, we celebrate the fresh perspectives and relentless energy of young architects. In partnership, we’re building a future where cities are not only designed to meet today’s needs but also inspire future generations.
