RSP and TADI Sign MOU to Strengthen Singapore-Tianjin Collaboration in Urban Renewal

On 27 September 2024, the 10th Singapore-Tianjin Economic and Trade Council meeting was held in Tianjin, China, during which RSP and the Tianjin Architecture Design Institute (TADI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

This MOU officially establishes the “Singapore-Tianjin Urban Renewal Research and Exchange Centre (中新(天津)城市更新研究交流中心) aimed at promoting collaboration in urban renewal, low-carbon energy-saving technologies, and ecological and environmental protection.

The council, founded in 2007, serves to deepen economic ties between Singapore and Tianjin, creating a conducive environment for enterprise collaboration.

More than 130 representatives from relevant departments and enterprises attended the meeting, including Tianjin’s Mayor Zhang Gong and Singapore’s Minister for National Development, Desmond Lee. Both leaders emphasised the importance of leveraging new policy opportunities and expanding cooperation in areas such as technological innovation, shipping, cultural tourism, and the green economy.

Under the agreement, RSP China’s Managing Director, Ms. Shi Lu, and TADI’s Chairman, Mr. Zhang Xiaoyu, are committed to build a think tank for urban development, commercial operations, government policies and asset revitalisation to enhance the research and practice of asset enhancement initiatives in Singapore and Tianjin. This partnership builds on RSP’s history in the region, which began 16 years ago with the CapitaMall Tianjing One project, developed in collaboration with CapitaLand.

As RSP enters its 20th year in China, the company continues to play a key role in shaping Tianjin’s urban and commercial landscape. The new centre will serve as a hub for innovative research and development, aiming to modernise and internationalise Tianjin while driving forward sustainable urban growth.

This collaboration represents a significant step forward in deepening ties between Singapore and China. By focusing on green enterprises and urban modernisation, both parties are setting the stage for long-term, sustainable development that will benefit future generations.
