[WATCH] All 7 Episodes of RSP x Capital 958 城市频道 “Let’s Explore” Series on Interesting Architectural Buildings in Singapore

Over a three-month period from August to October 2023, RSP collaborated with Singapore Chinese news entertainment radio station, Mediacorp CAPITAL 958 城市频道 to produce a 7-episode series on interesting architectural buildings in Singapore, focusing on sustainable designs and features.

At RSP, delivering humanity-centered design is our philosophy as we put forth design that inspires and engages with the society and environment. We are honoured to partner with Capital 958 for this series to showcase how professionals in the Built Environment sector contribute to sustainability, building a better world for everyone.

Together with the series host, Capital 958 DJ 胜扬 Sheng Yang, our architects, Law Yoke Foong, Nina Loo and many others visited some of the recent, iconic architectural projects completed by the RSP team, sharing with the audience, how sustainable designs and features are adopted in modern buildings to reduce carbon footprints.

EPISODE 1: GAIA, NANYANG TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY

In the inaugural episode of the series, DJ Sheng Yang visited Nanyang Technological University (NTU)’s Gaia with our architects, Yoke and Loh Kee Soon to learn about sustainable features in the largest wooden building in Asia.

Named Gaia, after the Greek goddess of Earth, the 6-storey development is the eighth zero energy building in NTU, and is a space for learning, research and innovation, where NTU students, faculty and staff can meet and connect to uncover new opportunities for collaboration and discovery.

EPISODE 2: ITE COLLEGE CENTRAL

In the second episode, DJ Sheng Yang visited the venue where Singapore’s National Day Rally by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is hosted yearly over the past ten years – ITE College Central.

Our architects, Chew Chee Kai and Yoke shared with Sheng Yang on the sustainable features and designs that went into designing this iconic landmark in Ang Mo Kio.

The College houses four Schools, offering a broad range of courses to meet diverse needs and interests. A Boeing 737, an early childhood education training centre, a sound stage for performance production and a ship hull right in the workshop are among the unique training facilities found at ITE College Central.

EPISODE 3: FUNAN

In this third episode, DJ Sheng Yang visited Funan, a mixed used development comprising a retail mall, two office towers and a serviced apartment tower in the Civic District in Singapore, with a total gross floor area of approximately 887,000 sq ft.

Our architects, Shaziran Shahabdeen and Yoke shared with Sheng Yang, the sustainable features and designs that went into designing this iconic lifestyle mall in the city centre.

As a new paradigm for live, work and play in Singapore’s city centre, Funan offers a synergistic combination of retail, office and serviced residence components that is designed to appeal to savvy consumers pursuing quality of life in a socially-conscious and creative environment. 

EPISODE 4: MASJID MAAROF

In this fourth episode, DJ Sheng Yang visited Masjid Maarof in Jurong. Maarof Mosque is Singapore’s 25th satellite mosque to be funded by the Mosque Building and Mendaki Fund. At full capacity, Masjid Maarof can accommodate approximately 4,500 worshippers.

Our architects, Madeni Jais and Yoke shared with Sheng Yang about the sustainable features and designs that went into designing this iconic religious building in the west of Singapore.

EPISODE 5: H&M ORCHARD

In this fifth episode, DJ Sheng Yang visited global fashion retail brand, H&M’s flagship store in Orchard.

Our architects, Joanna Lee, Tan Zhe Hong and Yoke shared with Sheng Yang, details about the first-of-its-kind store façade in Southeast Asia made with the breakthrough i-Mesh textile. Incorporating sustainable design considerations, the use of i-Mesh creates zero waste as it is produced exactly in the shape and pattern desired.

EPISODE 6: CAPITASPRING

In this sixth episode, DJ Sheng Yang visited one of the recipients of the 2023 President*s Design Award for Design of the Year, CapitaSpring. Featuring an iconic façade and harnessing the latest workplace and lifestyle innovations, the integrated development redefines Singapore’s city skyline.

Our architects, Nina Loo, Chin Qin You and Yoke shared with Sheng Yang the key features of CapitaSpring and its biophilic design that has earned the building several awards.

The 280-metre integrated development offers work, live, play spaces in a vertically connected environment. Between the premium Grade A office floors and the modern serviced residences located a Green Oasis with a height of more than 35 metres. Designed with social and activity spaces spread out over four storeys of lush greenery and trees, the Green Oasis offers a re-connection with nature in the middle of the city. 

EPISODE 7: CANBERRA MRT STATION

In this seventh episode, DJ Sheng Yang visited the heartlands in the North of Singapore to find out more about Canberra MRT Station, the first MRT station to be awarded platinum under the new Green Mark for Transit Stations Scheme (2020).

Our architects, Stephen Lim and Yoke shared with Sheng Yang Canberra MRT’s interesting naval ship design and its key green features such as edge planting and the station’s natural ventilation.
