The A&D Awards 2024 by Perspective celebrated the best in architecture and design at a prestigious ceremony held at Watermark in Central Pier, Hong Kong on 20 February, 2025. Among the honorees of the 40 Under 40 Awards was Khoo Teik Rong, Associate Director at RSP, one of three Singapore winners.
His recognition highlights his contributions to human-centric design and his dedication to shaping meaningful spaces.
Reflecting on this milestone, Teik Rong shared, “This award is a recognition of my journey thus far and the belief that great design should always be human-centric. This is what we strive to do at RSP as designers of spaces. It is an honor to be a part of a community that values architecture’s impact on society.”
Unlike many designers who cite specific figures as their inspirations, Teik Rong takes a different approach. “I don’t necessarily believe in having architectural or design heroes. But there have always been many sources of inspiration in life. Often, these occur in day-to-day, seemingly banal situations. These become my ‘muses’ that I revisit from time to time,” he explained. His philosophy emphasizes the importance of designing spaces that not only function well but also hold deeper meaning for their users.
Acknowledging the collaborative nature of his work, Teik Rong expressed gratitude to those who have supported him along the way. “I want to thank my mentors and colleagues at RSP for sharing the same passion for designing with purpose. Every project is a collaboration, and this recognition is a reflection of our collective efforts. I’m also grateful to my family for their unwavering support—they remind me of what is truly important in life.”
Winning the Perspective 40 Under 40 Award serves as both validation and motivation for Teik Rong. “It reinforces my belief in design’s power to shape communities and improve lives. With this recognition, I hope to continue pushing for architecture that is not just visually striking but deeply connected to the people who use it. It’s also an opportunity to inspire the next generation to design with empathy and impact.”
For Teik Rong, the essence of being a designer lies in the ability to create spaces that truly serve people. “Design isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about shaping experiences, fostering connections, and improving well-being. Seeing how a well-designed space can enhance daily life is what makes architecture so rewarding.”
As he continues his journey at RSP, Teik Rong remains committed to his mission of designing with purpose, ensuring that every space he creates is both functional and deeply meaningful. His recognition at the A&D Awards 2024 solidifies his role as a key figure in the architectural landscape and a source of inspiration for future designers.
