RSP, together with Squire Mech (SM), is proud to have supported the revitalisation of City Square Mall through its S$50 million Asset Enhancement Initiative (AEI). Commissioned by City Developments Limited (CDL), the extensive upgrade repositions Singapore’s first eco-mall as a vibrant community and lifestyle destination within the evolving Farrer Park precinct.
The official launch of the refreshed mall took place on 10 March and was officiated by Mr Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Social and Family Development.
For the project, RSP and Squire Mech served as Project Architect, Civil & Structural Engineer, and Mechanical & Electrical Engineer, delivering a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to the mall’s transformation.
A Phased Transformation

The AEI began in September 2023 and was implemented across three phases to minimise disruption to tenants and visitors. The first two phases were completed in the first half of 2025, with the final phase concluding in early 2026.
Through strategic spatial reconfiguration, the 12-storey mall gained approximately 26,000 square feet of additional Gross Floor Area (GFA). This enabled the introduction of new retail and dining offerings while improving circulation, amenities and the overall visitor experience.
A key component of the enhancement was the creation of Gastro Square, a 24,000 sq ft dining destination that brings together international cuisines, experiential dining and live programming within a lively social environment.
Strengthening Community Connections
The AEI also reinforces City Square Mall’s role as a neighbourhood hub. New and enhanced community spaces were introduced across the development, including Green Square, Discovery Square and Gastro Square.

A significant addition is CONNECT @ City Square Mall, developed in partnership with the National Council of Social Service. Located on Level 4 and Basement 2, the 15,000 sq ft facility brings together five social service agencies to provide integrated support services for families and children.

Complementing these community initiatives is the enhancement of City Green, a 49,000 sq ft urban park integrated with the mall. The park now features refreshed landscaping, communal gathering spaces and two nature-inspired playgrounds designed to encourage family interaction and outdoor play.
Sustainability at the Core

As Singapore’s first eco-mall, sustainability remains central to the development’s identity. The AEI incorporates a range of environmentally conscious upgrades, including the reuse and repurposing of materials throughout the interior refurbishment.
At City Green, CDL expanded its MicroForest initiative to demonstrate the potential of compact urban forests to enhance biodiversity and improve microclimates in dense urban settings.
Nearby sits the CDL EcoTrain, Singapore’s first decommissioned SMRT Corporation train cabin repurposed into a climate education hub. The space hosts eco-workshops and educational programmes for families and youths, supporting broader community engagement on sustainability.
A Future-Ready Retail Destination
With refreshed interiors, expanded green spaces and strengthened community programming, the revitalised City Square Mall reflects a new chapter for one of Singapore’s pioneering sustainable retail developments.
Through its integrated architectural and engineering expertise, RSP and SM supported CDL in delivering a project that enhances both the retail experience and the social fabric of the surrounding neighbourhood.
