RSP wins Second Runner Up in Raffles Place Park Redevelopment Design Competition 2024

RSP came in 2nd runner up in this year’s Raffles Place Park (RPP) Redevelopment Design Competition. Jointly organised by Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and the National Parks Board (NParks), designers are encouraged to re-imagine RPP to be an urban park and public space that fosters social life and belonging in Singapore’s Central Business District.

“Firstly, I would like to congratulate the team on achieving 2nd Runner-Up in this competition. We took a unique approach by envisioning the rewilding of Raffles Place Park into a green oasis—a refreshing escape from the congested CBD dominated by concrete, steel, and glass. In our view, this is a win, as the jury appreciated our vision. We can humbly say that the design scene in Singapore continues to evolve and grow more progressive.”

RSP’s Concept

Titled “Breathe”, RSP’s concept for Rffles Place Park awakens everyone’s inner child using colour and a green oasis, created through various micro “forests”. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a ventilated environment with overhead wind sails. Afterwards, they are invited to linger by a forest stream.

“Breathe”‘s relaxing atmosphere is carried on through its various micro-forests. This includes an edible forest near the existing F&B ORA to create a farm-to-table dining experience.

"Architecture, at its core, must disrupt the familiar and reimagine what is possible—challenging the brief's boundaries, awakening our sensibilities, and enabling courage to explore the unknown. As a team, I am pleased that we embraced this uncertainty, and our approach was notably recognized in the jury's citation. I am grateful to have been part of a collective effort where collaboration served not merely as a process but as a means to provoke and rethink."

Congratulations to the team!

The entry is done in collaboration with Henning Larsen Ptd Ltd as the Landscape Architects, KOEN Consult Pte Ltd as the C&S Engineer, DN+0 Engineers LLP as the M&E Engineer and VICM Consultants Pte Ltd as the QS.

From RSP, our creative contributors include Directors Constance Tew and Gabriel Chen, Associate Director Khoo Teik Rong, Associate Loy Lijun, Executive (Architectural) Jai Atul Shah, Architectural Designer William Lim, Interior Designer Jack Ong and Graphic Designer Chen Xinyue.

RSP’s entry is met with praise from the jury who describes it as “a unique approach to transform Raffles Place Park with an immersive park experience that sets itself apart from other urban parks in our city.”

Congratulations to our hardworking team for crafting a beautiful concept. Moving forward, we are excited to participate in more competitions that bring our staff together to stretch our design capabilities.
