RSP Celebrates Completed Design of SIT Punggol Campus Court

On 24 August, 2024, RSP and SM (Squire Mech) were invited to attend the symbolic move for Singapore Institute of Technology’s (SIT) Punggol Campus Court. Designed and built by RSP, the new campus will host 3,800 students from the Business, Communication and Design and InfoComm Technology clusters, making up roughly two-fifths of the total student population.

The ceremony is graced by Guest-of-Honour, Minister for Education, Mr Chan Chun Sing and Senior Minister of State, Dr Janil Puthucheary. Attendees from RSP Singapore included, our CEO, Beh Swee Chiew, Executive Director, Suen Wee Kwok, Executive Director, Tan Sew Guan, Director, Tang Kai Vern, Associate Director, Chew Chee Kai, Senior Associate, Jocelyn Yong and from SM, Associate Director, Ong Kian Wee.

“SIT’s Punggol Campus Court offers a space that supports students and empowers them with valuable industry hands-on experience from its location as part of the Punggol Digital District. SIT, then becomes more than just an institution—it becomes the hub for boundless innovation and opportunities for its students. As the leading designers of the Punggol Campus Court, we are proud to have created a space that not only supports an enriching learning environment, but it also actively contributes towards our sustainability goals. With the completion of SIT's Punggol Campus Court, we look forward to further contributing to the future developments of the vibrant and evolving Punggol Digital District.”

Located in JTC’s Punggol Digital District, the SIT Punggol Campus reinforces SIT’s position as an industry-focused university of applied learning, which then promises real-world industry experience for its students. Its vicinity to JTC, nearby schools and the local Punggol community also encourages community-building and local out-reach projects.

The SIT Punggol Campus comprises of two plots: the SIT Campus Heart and SIT Campus Court. RSP took the helm of designing the latter as the lead designers.

"The new Singapore Institute of Technology highlights our commitment in integrating sustainable engineering design into this campus of the future. Besides the mass engineered timber in the canteen, the use of green concrete also helped to reduce the carbon footprint. We hope to play our part in creating an inspiring environment for the students."

SIT’s Campus Court occupies a site area of 42,450.61 SQM and faces Serangoon Reservoir and Coney Island. On campus, an ecological corridor connects the Campus Court to the SIT Campus Heart and the waterfront it overlooks.

As for the inner workings, the campus incorporates passive Displacement Ventilation for the auditorium and lecture theatres with naturally ventilated group learning spaces, thereby creating spaces that are both comfortable for students and fully sustainable.

Other energy-saving measures include utilising SMART technology to eliminate the need for mechanical fans to circulate air conditioning, alongside installing solar panels and rainwater collection systems on rooftops. These energy-saving measures collectively enable the SIT Campus Court to win three BCA Green Mark awards in 2022.

“We designed SIT’s Punggol Campus Court to holistically enhance the campus experience. To this end, we created a variety of spaces that encourage interaction and participation, such as landscaped courtyards and a variety of spaces outside the classrooms, all to enrich the student experience with opportunities for community-building and collaboration. All this to say that their time at SIT would be an unforgettable experience full of memories.”

Alongside sustainability, RSP designed the Court Campus to provide the best experience for the students.

Besides the ecological corridor, the various green spaces such as the school’s sky terraces and courtyards provide spaces for collaboration and social interaction among students. Furthermore, the consolidation of SIT’s many campuses enable students to build connections with others from different faculties.
